The facility may only be a mud hut with an untrained teacher, but the eagerness\u00a0to learn, shown by these\u00a0vulnerable children, never seizes to amaze me. Education is everything to them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11609\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040269.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11609\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11609 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040269-475x356.jpg\" alt=\"P1040269\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11609\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bunsanga Community School in need of a Permanent classroom<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Since 2006 The Butterfly Tree has run an <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/get-involved\/orphan-sponsorship\/\">orphan sponsorship<\/a><\/strong> programme for children who have lost one or both parents. Several hundred children have received a sound basic education, now many of the\u00a0original beneficiaries\u00a0have completed school.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11613\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040027.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11613\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11613 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040027-475x356.jpg\" alt=\"P1040027\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11613\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Josias Muuba now a trained pre-school teacher<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Over the past ten years we have build a considerable number of schools and teachers houses, installed bore hole and latrines, improved the health facilities, all for the benefit of the <strong>orphans<\/strong>. In addition we have provided vast amounts of educational material, sports and classroom equipment and much needed boarding shelters to enable older children to attend High School.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11603\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P10406631.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11603\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11603 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P10406631-475x356.jpg\" alt=\"P1040663\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11603\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Singwamba Primary School development funded by Attraction Tickets Direct<\/p><\/div>\n<p>What has impressed me most is the desire for these educated <strong>orphans<\/strong> to give back to their community. Jacob, when he completed grade 12, thanked me and added\u00a0&#8216;<em>What can I\u00a0<\/em><em style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">do to help The Butterfly Tree<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">?&#8217; He has since been a volunteer at Mukuni Health Centre, helped us with the <strong>orphan<\/strong> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/our-work\/health\/malaria\/\">malaria prevention<\/a> programmes, and is about to start his final year at agricultural college.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11604\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040768.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11604\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11604 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040768-475x356.jpg\" alt=\"P1040768\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11604\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jacob helping with the malaria prevention programme &#8211; Chuunga Village<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Others like Josias, Edwin, Natasha, Joe, Sammy, Florence, Mufiani, and Etkin have followed suit by volunteering for the charity. Most importantly many of them have become trained peer educators in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/our-work\/health\/peer-education-for-hiv-and-aids-prevention\/\">HIV prevention<\/a>, a programme that was written especially for these young Zambians by Mutsa Marau, one of our UK volunteers. Natasha and Bridget are full time volunteers at the clinic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11508\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1050323.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11508\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11508 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1050323-475x356.jpg\" alt=\"P1050323\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11508\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former sponsored orphans turned peer educators<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8216;Catch me I&#8217;m a Butterfly Tree&#8217; teaches school children about the dangers of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/our-work\/health\/hiv-and-aids-education\/\">HIV and AIDS<\/a>, early teenage pregnancies, STI&#8217;s and drug and alcohol abuse. I spent several days in March observing and working with these young peer educators, it was truly inspirational. They are motivated role models and the ones that will make the change for their peers and families to lead\u00a0healthier lives.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11605\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1050542.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11605\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11605 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1050542-475x356.jpg\" alt=\"P1050542\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11605\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bridget, Natasha and Florence conducting an HIV prevention workshop &#8211; Mukuni<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When funds are available we sponsor <strong>orphans<\/strong> to go to college. The\u00a0courses include hotel management, teaching, engineering and computing to name but a few. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfss.org.uk\/\">The British and Foreign School Society<\/a> sponsored 20\u00a0students, out of these 18\u00a0have sought employment. Our aim is to source funds to provide\u00a0further education opportunities for the orphans, and to create a training centre for young entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11606\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040408.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11606\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11606 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1040408-475x356.jpg\" alt=\"P1040408\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11606\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Petronella employed as a maid at Avani Hotel, saving for\u00a0teacher&#8217;s training college<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A message from Petronella:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;I would like to thank you for the sponsorship you gave me towards my education.
