{"id":12453,"date":"2017-05-16T10:54:07","date_gmt":"2017-05-16T10:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/?p=12453"},"modified":"2017-05-16T11:00:43","modified_gmt":"2017-05-16T11:00:43","slug":"more-schools-for-rural-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/2017\/more-schools-for-rural-children\/","title":{"rendered":"More Schools for Rural Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I first offered to raise funds to build a high school in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/about\/charity-history\/\">Mukuni Village<\/a> back in 2006, never did I imagine in a millions years that The Butterfly Tree would be building entire new schools, classrooms, teachers&#8217; houses, boarding facilities as well as special education units for children with mental and physical disabilities.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12456\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/CNV00046.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12456\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12456 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/CNV00046-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/CNV00046-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/CNV00046-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/CNV00046-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/CNV00046-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MUKUNI HIGH SCHOOL OPENED IN 2007<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We have since supported and developed 32 schools in the Kazungula and Livingstone Districts.\u00a0Most recently we completed a two-phase development at N&#8217;gandu School in Mukuni Chiefdom, thanks to a substantial grant from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joa.je\/\">JOA<\/a> Community Works Project. This included 9 classrooms, two teacher&#8217;s houses, 3 double latrines, a kitchen shelter and a water reticulation system. The 560 pupils now have adequate space to learn up to grade 9.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12468\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060933-1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12468\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12468 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060933-1-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060933-1-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060933-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060933-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060933-1-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12468\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NGANDU SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT 2015-16<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Bunsanga School, in Musokotwane\u00a0Chiefdom, was built by the community and run by an unskilled teacher. Unfortunately, in January the school was hit by a severe storm and the roof collapsed. Construction is now underway to build a permanent two-bay classroom block, donated\u00a0by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attraction-tickets-direct.co.uk\/\">Attraction Tickets Direct<\/a>, who have previously funded the development of Kauwe, Nampuyani, Singwamba and Sinsimuku Schools.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12457\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060632.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12457\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12457 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060632-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060632-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060632-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060632-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060632-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12457\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BUNSANGA COMMUNITY SCHOOL &#8211; NEW SCHOOL IS CURRENTLY BEING BUILT<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last week we received a grant for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.gg\/overseasaid\">GOAC<\/a>, which will enable us to expand River View School in Sekute Chiefdom. The school has 1,150 pupils, currently there are not enough classrooms to enrol grade 10 pupils. The funding includes classrooms, latrines, desks and 1,200 mosquito nets for all the pupils and teachers, to aid our <strong>malaria prevention<\/strong> programme.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12458\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060513.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12458\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12458 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060513-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060513-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060513-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060513-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060513-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12458\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RIVER VIEW SCHOOL EXPANSION STARTING IN MAY 2017<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition to these school developments, we have recently donated a substantial amount of text books and desks to Mukuni, Kamwi, River View and Bunsanga Schools, thanks to donations from donors and volunteers from the UK, USA, Canada and Dubai.
