Orphans give back to their community after completing\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>school.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the most difficult challenges when running a charity in a developing county is to create sustainability. Zambia is no exception.\u00a0Many of\u00a0<\/span>orphans we sponsored from 2006 completed high school, some have sought employment,\u00a0<\/span>while others advanced to further education.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over\u00a0fifty orphans, who achieved their goals, are\u00a0now working\u00a0<\/span>in schools, hotels and other establishments.\u00a0Currently,\u00a0<\/span>six\u00a0students are attending teaching and agricultural colleges, all sponsored by The Butterfly Tree, thanks to\u00a0the generous support from our donors.<\/span><\/p>\n

BRIDGET, TRAINING TO BE A TEACHER<\/p><\/div>\n

Those\u00a0who have not yet had chance to go college\u00a0are\u00a0encouraged to volunteer for both the charity and the community. They have helped us to build community houses<\/a>, distribute vital malaria prevention<\/a> products, volunteer\u00a0at the clinic, and teach in some of the local schools we support.<\/span><\/p>\n

FORMER SPONSORED ORPHANS BUILDING COMMUNITY HOUSES<\/p><\/div>\n

Despite suffering the loss of one or both parents at early age, these vulnerable young people have\u00a0<\/span>embraced\u00a0the opportunities offered to them. Most especially, a remarkable group from Mukuni Village<\/a>, who have taken on a huge\u00a0challenge to help reduce the number of new cases of HIV, early teenage pregnancies, alcohol and drug abusers.<\/span><\/p>\n

DONALD, NATAHSA, JAFTA, NGAMBA, EDWIN, PETER & DENNIS<\/p><\/div>\n

Originally trained by Mutsa Marau, and most recently by Leah Black, two experienced UK volunteers<\/a>, the group are making a significant impact\u00a0amongst the youths of Mukuni and other rural areas in the Kazungula District. The group, known as Mukuni Youth Empowerment, goes into schools educating the pupils about the dangers and issues they are faced with. Included in the workshops are drama and dance performances to illustrate the effect that HIV, alcohol and early teenage pregnancies can have\u00a0can have on an individual and their extended family.<\/span><\/p>\n

MUKUNI YOUTH EMPOWERMENT DRAMA PERFORMANCE – NATIONAL YOUTH DAY<\/p><\/div>\n

Earlier this year, Edwin, Natasha, Dennis, Jafta, Ngamba and Donald, were given two months intensive training on coaching and mentoring from Leah, which will create further sustainability for the project. In addition to the workshops the group are giving both\u00a0one-to-one mentoring and group coaching sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n
