This created problems for some communities as they became inaccessible\u00a0due to high river levels, but the great news is that it has helped to alleviate the hunger of the past two years.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12501\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/DSC07203.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12501\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12501 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/DSC07203-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12501\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FAST-FLOWING RIVERS BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO CROSS<\/p><\/div>\n<p>If you have to\u00a0walk several miles to school on an empty stomach, being able to receive food from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/our-work\/food\/mukuni-school-feeding-program\/\">feeding programme<\/a> is a huge benefit. Not only does it increase your stamina, but will improve your concentration levels. Sixteen schools in Mukuni and Nyawa Chiefdoms were given seeds and fertilizer thanks to your donations. All surplus produce has been dried, and this year it is hoped that food supplements will not be as necessary as in recent years. As we branch out into new areas more wells and water systems are needed. In March I visited Luzila Village, a community in Sekute Chiefdom, The people have\u00a0to draw water from a swamp during the wet season. Muselekwa, the Headman, told me that once the swamp\u00a0is dry, people have to walk almost two miles to Lupani School\u00a0to fetch\u00a0water.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12503\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060768.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12503\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12503 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060768-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060768-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060768-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060768-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1060768-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12503\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SWAMP NEAR LUZILA VILLAGE USED FOR DRINKING WATER IN THE WET SEASON<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Four other villages rely on this swamp for drinking water, washing clothes and bathing. Muselekwa said\u00a0that 600 people are in much need of a fresh local water source. Although they have access to the school bore hole, besides the distance, the extra demand often\u00a0depletes the water supply.
