The Butterfly Tree&#8217;s programme, which is proving to be highly successful, is helping to prevent new cases occuring in Zambia.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13860\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090376.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13860\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-13860 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090376-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090376-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090376-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090376-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090376-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13860\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PUPILS AT RIVER VIEW SCHOOL HAVE PROTECTION FOR MALARIA<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The latest report received from the Environmental Officer in Nyawa Chiefdom, states <strong>ZERO<\/strong> cases of <strong>malaria<\/strong> after our intervention. We\u00a0provided universal coverage for two villages and their surrounding communities, where there was a high prevalence of <strong>malaria<\/strong>. Each dwelling was painted with a safe insecticidal coating, larvicide was placed in streams and ponds, and mosquito nets were given to each family.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13857\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090049.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13857\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-13857 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090049-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090049-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090049-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090049-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090049-1x1.jpg 1w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1090049.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13857\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ZERO CASES OF MALARIA IN NYAWA VILLAGES<\/p><\/div>\n<p>These results are significant and prove that eradication can happen. In Moomba Chiefdom, some 300 km from our base, 46% of the population had <strong>malaria<\/strong> in 2017. In December that year the charity started a programme to provide universal coverage for the entire Chiefdom, here are the latest statistics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1,531 cases in 2017<\/li>\n<li>525 cases in 2018<\/li>\n<li>56 cases to date in 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_13858\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1070144.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13858\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-13858 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1070144-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1070144-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1070144-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1070144-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/P1070144-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13858\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MOOMBA CHIEFDOM &#8211; MALARIA CASES SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We aim to continue providing mosquito nets for schools after identifying that school children are not being protected from <strong>malaria<\/strong> as priority is given to pregnant women and children under five. After visiting Ngwezi Rural Health Centre in March and learning that the larvicide, which we had previously donated, was helping to reduce the number of <strong>malaria<\/strong> cases, the next phase will be to apply the insecticidal coating. In addition, mosquito nets will be given to three schools in the area.
