The Butterfly Tree<\/a> has had an extremely successful year\u00a0raising donations through grants, corporate and indivduals; the number of tourists who visit Mukuni Village<\/a> has also boosted the funds. To view our annual report and accounts visit – click here<\/a><\/p>\n

Much of the success is down to two factors: 100% of all donations raised go directly to the cause and all our members both in the UK and at\u00a0Mukuni<\/a> are volunteers. I especially wish to thank the Zambian team, all have full time jobs in the village, who give up their free time to administer the projects. Although\u00a0the majority\u00a0of the funds are raised in the UK, without the support of The Butterfly Tree in Zambia, we would not be able to accomplish so much.<\/p>\n

It is difficult to single out any individuals but the following\u00a0deserve a mention, Cunninghams for their ongoing support of the feeding program at Mukuni Basic school<\/a>, Gardiff for continual sponsorship of\u00a0the pre school, Saga Charitable Trust for their donations to the Mukuni Health Centre<\/a>, BFSS for their grant to equip the high school, KTCT for the funding of the Mukuni Maternity Clinic<\/a>, Just a Drop who are funding our\u00a0bore holes\u00a0and TME for the HIV\/AIDS educational DVDs.<\/p>\n

Working with Exquisite Safaris to promote Philanthropic Travel<\/a> and responsible tourism has\u00a0brought interest to our work from the US; speaking at the Global Luxury Forum<\/a> and the World Travel Market<\/a> in 2007\u00a0enabled me\u00a0enrol more members of the tourist industry in the fight against world poverty.<\/p>\n

However\u00a0much more needs to be done, we need\u00a0to increase\u00a0our orphan sponsorship<\/a> program, not just at\u00a0Mukuni but other\u00a0rural schools, unfortunately the stastistics of\u00a0HIV\/AIDS are not declining\u00a0with\u00a0710,000 children orphaned through this devastating disease, we\u00a0are seeking more\u00a0of you\u00a0to sponsor a child<\/a>.\u00a0We need\u00a0funding for additional classrooms, teachers’ houses and feeding programs for\u00a0remote schools, safe water and community housing besides further improving the facilties at Mukuni Health Centre<\/a> and other rural clinics.<\/p>\n
