I would like to thank everyone for your cards, email, letters, flowers and offers of support since my husband, Lawrence, was tragically killed last month.\u00a0The Butterfly Tree <\/a>has\u00a0received over \u00a35000 in donations\u00a0in his memory, which will go a long way to improving the lives of the vulnerable people in the Mukuni Chiefdom<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Besides funding the\u00a0feeding program\u00a0through our company, Cunninghams<\/a>, Lawrence loved the ‘housing project’. Many elderly people and widows live in appalling conditions and to be able to provide a new home for\u00a0someone living in poverty is a very humbling experience. Mukuni Village<\/a> preserves\u00a0its tribal\u00a0traditions\u00a0by\u00a0building mud huts, however some\u00a0of the population\u00a0are living in open shelters leaving them exposed to the elements, mosquitos and\u00a0snakes. During this rainy period they have no protection and during the winter months the temperautres at night can drop to zero.<\/p>\n

A young disabled wood carver was living in this shelter, which has now been replaced thanks to a donation from\u00a0donors in Ilkeston. If the homes are substantially built with a conctrete floor, like the ones provided by The Butterfly Tree, they\u00a0can last for years, only the straw roof needs replacing regularly. It only\u00a0costs \u00a3350 to\u00a0provide a home\u00a0for a needy person and can transform someone’s life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
