The Butterfly Tree<\/a> has launched a flood appeal to help victims of the recent Zambia Floods<\/a>. The president has announced the flood as a national disaster and it is still raining!<\/p>\n

Due to the lack of information reported by the world press it is difficult to access just how bad the situation from the Zambia Floods<\/a> is; talking to my contacts in the Livingstone area it is devastating. A number of lives have been lost and many people displaced; schools have\u00a0had to\u00a0closed and crops destroyed.\u00a0The make shift homes, in compound areas such\u00a0as Maramba have collasped and rural mud huts are not standing up to the deluge.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Perhaps the worst is still to come,\u00a0with most of the crops being lost during this prime growing season, a famine is predicted.<\/p>\n

I have had trememdous response to our flood appeal<\/strong> and many Zambians living in the UK have offered invaluable assistance from shipping emergency supplies to broadcasting the appeal on the radio.<\/p>\n

We will be air freighting medical supplies, blankets and clothing but money is needed to rebuild homes and livelihoods;\u00a0The Butterfly Tree’s\u00a0well-built houses have stood up to the elements; for just \u00a3300 we can give a family a new home.
