The second largest and second most populated continent, Africa\u00a0has huge geographical diversity and a mixture of\u00a0many different cultures. In the middle of some of the most volatile countries on the planet is a haven called <a title=\"Zambia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/about\/where-we-work\/why-zambia\/\">Zambia<\/a>,\u00a0totally land-locked\u00a0yet\u00a0boasting\u00a0some of the best wildlife in Africa and the magnificent <a title=\"Victoria Falls\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/2007\/victoria-falls\/#more-6\">Victoria Falls<\/a>. It borders eight other countries including Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4661\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4661\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4661 \" title=\"Victoria Falls - Zambia\" alt=\"Victoria Falls - Zambia\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/5760003480_14c6cbc1421-475x356.jpg\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4661\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The breathtaking Victoria Falls &#8211; Zambia<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Today marks <a title=\"Africa Day\" href=\"http:\/\/www.africaday.ie\/home.aspx\">Africa\u00a0Day<\/a> and the one thing that unites all Africans is their love of music &#8211; they are born with rhythm! From their very first steps to adulthood they are natural dances and love performing\u00a0at schools, in churches and at community gatherings &#8211; song and dance are\u00a0part off\u00a0their traditional heritage.\u00a0Surrounded by\u00a0such extreme cases of poverty and deprivation music can bring a light relief and is a great way to spread awareness of diseases such as HIV\/AIDS and malaria. <a title=\"The Butterfly Tree\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/about\/\">The Butterfly Tree<\/a> is working with a number of volunteers who are helping to raise funds to help the fight against these\u00a0devastating\u00a0diseases.\u00a0Basement Entertainment supports our malaria prevention program. <a title=\"Brendan Mission\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brendanmission.com\/\">Brendan Mission<\/a>, through <a title=\"Music Earth Rise\" href=\"http:\/\/www.musicearthrise.com\/\">Music Earth Rise<\/a> is currently raising funds to build a\u00a0\u00a0music\u00a0centre\u00a0\u00a0in <a title=\"Mukuni Village\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/about\/where-we-work\/mukuni-village\/\">Mukuni Village<\/a>. The pupils will be able to use it to hold concerts, drama and\u00a0workshops.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4653\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4653\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4653 \" title=\"Mukuni Basic School tradtional dance\" alt=\"Mukuni Basic School tradtional dance\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/5759377871_f5d82d35ca1-475x356.jpg\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4653\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Africa Day: Mukuni Basic School performing a tradtional dance<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To make any lasting progress the <a title=\"HIV\/AIDS education\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/our-work\/health\/hiv-and-aids-education\/\">HIV\/AIDS<\/a> situation has to be addressed. In Mukuni alone almost 50% of the children are orphaned, whereas one in six adults are HIV positive. We have a number of programs to help tackle this enormous problem but more funds are needed. As always education is the key and this coming year we\u00a0are fortunate\u00a0to have several volunteers, including <a title=\"Mutsa Murau\" href=\"http:\/\/meetmutsa.tumblr.com\/\">Mutsa Murau<\/a>, who\u00a0want to\u00a0work with the orphans to help reduce the number of new cases of HIV.\u00a0Mutsa will assist our\u00a0<a title=\"HIV\/AIDS prevention\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/our-work\/health\/malaria\/\">HIV\/AIDS prevention<\/a> program by training peer educators in some of the schools supported by The Butterfly Tree.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4654\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4654\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4654 \" title=\"Orphans at Simasimbi Basic School\" alt=\"Orphans at Simasimbi Basic School\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/5759427581_23f425f0a61-475x356.jpg\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4654\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Orphans at Simasimbi Basic School<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Although there is vast wealth\u00a0among\u00a0some Africans the majority of\u00a0people\u00a0native to\u00a0countries like Zambia live in extreme poverty and rely on international aid. However\u00a0we feel that it is\u00a0vital to bring about\u00a0sustainability\u00a0in areas where we operate once the education and health facilities have been improved. We are\u00a0developing a number of enterprises at both the school and community in <a title=\"Mukuni \" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/about\/where-we-work\/mukuni\/\">Mukuni<\/a>.
