If you think that they are badly done to in this country, in Zambia, where the average monthly pay for a teacher is \u00a3100, teachers have\u00a0to endure appalling living conditions. They have no\u00a0choice of schools, a teacher can be sent anywhere\u00a0throughout the country, and despite having lived in a town or city, they suddenly find themselves in the middle of the bush with no plumbing or electricity.<\/p>\n<p>At <a title=\"Mukuni Village\" href=\"\/pages\/mukuni-village\/\" target=\"_self\">Mukuni Village<\/a>\u00a0I see\u00a0teachers living in leaking storerooms, tuck shops and classrooms, sharing a pit-latrine toilet and an &#8216;open air&#8217; bathroom, using bowls of cold water to wash with.\u00a0Sadly\u00a0The Butterfly Tree receives\u00a0very few\u00a0donations to build teacher&#8217;s houses, despite the fact that teachers are the backbone of these remote\u00a0schools. In one house where there are five male teachers, with only four rooms, one poor guy has to sleep in a cupboard. It is these teachers who are helping the orphans to overcome their hardships and find a way to better their lives.<\/p>\n<p>As well as\u00a0having poor living conditions the teachers are also battling with inadequate facilities. Many classrooms are in desparate need of restoration, books are in short supply and the sports facilities are virtually non-existant, with\u00a0numerous schools having to use &#8216;bag and string&#8217; footballs and the gymnasts\u00a0training on the &#8216;dirt&#8217; ground.\u00a0Most rural\u00a0schools have no plumbing or electricty, many are without even a bore hole, and some with no facilities at all, use using the shade of a mango tree to\u00a0conduct\u00a0their lessons.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"imageframe imgalignleft\" alt=\"Zambia Classroom\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/wp-content\/images\/2466750363_38a6987577.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Photo: Classroom in Zambia<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We are seeking corporates and individuals to sponsor a teacher&#8217;s house or classroom,\u00a0with a donation\u00a0between \u00a35000 &#8211; \u00a320000 you could make a difference to an entire Zambian community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the recent teacher&#8217;s strike I am sure that many of you\u00a0had sympathy\u00a0for the wonderful people who educate our children.
