{"id":9856,"date":"2014-06-04T14:34:46","date_gmt":"2014-06-04T14:34:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/?p=9856"},"modified":"2014-06-15T07:04:19","modified_gmt":"2014-06-15T07:04:19","slug":"malaria-prevention-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebutterflytree.org.uk\/pages\/2014\/malaria-prevention-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Malaria Prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong><em>[PRESSWIRE]<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0London, UK &#8211; 03.06.14 &#8212; The Butterfly Tree has been given a licence to import two safe new products to use in the prevention of malaria and other vector-borne diseases.<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Globally malaria is the biggest killer of man. 75% of people who die from malaria are children under 5, mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">The products could potentially save the lives of thousands of children and also help to prevent\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"River blindness\" href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/blindness\/partnerships\/onchocerciasis_disease_information\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Onchocerciasis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">, commonly known as river blindness, caused by the black fly. In areas of the Northern and Western Provinces one in ten people suffer from this condition and currently there are no preventative methods available in Zambia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">The Ministry of Health and the <a title=\"Malaria Control Centre\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nmcc.org.zm\/index.htm\">Malaria Control Centre in Zambia<\/a> have welcomed the products. Besides using it for our humanitarian projects we are contacting all corporates operating in the nation as this could be hugely beneficial to the mining, agriculture and tourist industries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Many productive hours are lost as a result of malaria.
