Fight Malaria with Basement Crew
Basement Crew have joined forces with The Butterfly Tree to help the fight against malaria in Zambia. While there are four types of parasites that can cause malaria in humans, Plasmodium falciparum is by far the most deadly and common, particularly in Zambia. Once a person is bitten by a P. falciparum-carrying mosquito, the parasite grows, multiplies, and undergoes a series of complex life cycle changes that allow it to evade the immune system and infect the liver and red blood cells. Malaria disease caused by P. falciparum may result in death within hours or a few days of infection especially in those with low immunity such as children, pregnant women, people with AIDS (not necessarily HIV carriers), and travelers from areas with little or no malaria. Malaria can also result in miscarriage in pregnant women, low birth-weight infants, developmental disabilities, and other complications.
Africa malaria prevention and treatment can alleviate the burden of disease. The latest report from WHO recently states that Zambia has achieved a major reduction in malaria mortality by 66% and will be promoted for other countries to follow. With your effort this statistic can be improved upon. If Zambians around the globe unite we can ‘Make Malaria History in Zambia’ says Basement Crew ‘Dj Spypa’ - Oscar Myanda.

Africa Malaria: prevent these children from getting malaria
The Butterfly Tree, a UK charity and NGO in Zambia, supports malaria programs in rural villages and distributes interactive educational DVDs on ‘Avoiding Malaria’ and ‘Bed Nets Can Save Lives’ to schools and communities in Zambia. By donating through The Butterfly Tree, in partnership with Basement Crew, as little as £3 can buy a mosquito net or provide vital funds for malaria health education and workshops.

The Butterfly Tree was founded by Jane Kaye-Bailey in March 2006 after a business incentive trip to Zambia. Having visited Mukuni Village and learnt that the school had 450 orphans as a result of HIV and AIDS in Zambia, Jane set up The Butterfly Tree.
All the money that is raised will go directly into the malaria program as we do not deduct any personal fees; our entire committees both here and in Zambia are run by volunteers.
With thanks to all our charity sponsors -
