‘Mangoes of Hope’ – a sustainable income-generating enterprise for 200 women in Musokotwane Chiefdom was initiated in 2020. In June 2021 a workshop, drying area and toilets were completed. The women are being trained in business management and mango production. The trees grow wild in Zambia and the fruit, which is not consumed, is left to rot. The aim is to produce dried mango, for local consumption to provide nutrition when mangoes are not in season. This will also be sold commercially as well as mango chutney, mango jam and mango tea. The women will make basketry and cloth bags for containers.
